COL Charlie Miller

Director, Chief of Staff of the Army Strategic Studies Group

Colonel Charlie Miller is the Director of the Chief of Staff of the Army (CSA) Strategic Studies Group. An Army strategist, he recently served as the Director, Chairman's Action Group for the 19th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Joseph Dunford, and for the 18th Chairman, General Martin Dempsey. He served previously as a special assistant to CSA General Ray Odierno and at the White House as a Director for Iraq on the NSC staff. His overseas assignments include two tours in Iraq, one as the deputy director of the Commander's Initiatives Group for General David Petraeus during "the Surge" in 2007-2008 and the other as the Executive Officer to then Lt. General Petraeus in 2004-2005. He has also served as a Special Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen, and as a strategist at the U.S. Southern Command in Miami. As an infantry officer, he served with the 101st Airborne Division and the Ranger Training Brigade. He holds a Ph.D., M.Phil., and Masters of International Affairs from Columbia University and a B.S. from the U.S. Military Academy.
